Welcome to the Ottawa Institute of

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

The Ottawa Institute of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (OICBT) was founded in 2009.  We provide assessment and therapy services (individual, couples, and group) for a wide range of mental health problems, and are one of the few clinics in Canada that offers intensive day treatment programming for anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression. We also provide training to students and health professionals, as well as consultation services to organizations.

New Clients

If you are interested in receiving services from the OICBT, we invite you to visit our Information for New Clients page which includes important information about our intake process, insurance coverage, and inter-provincial services by videoconference.

If you would like more information around booking an intake assessment, or have any additional questions, please click on the button below to book a free 15-minute information call about the services we provide for adults or seniors. If our services appear to be a good fit for your needs, a follow-up intake assessment appointment can be booked for you during the information call to better assess your goals. Please note that the purpose of the intake assessment is to gather critical information for developing treatment recommendations and is not the commencement of therapy. Following the intake assessment you will be provided with detailed treatment recommendations that you may choose to move forward with at that time.

Please note that you will receive a phone call from a blocked number for this information call. Prior to the call, please ensure that your phone settings are set up to allow calls from blocked numbers

NEWS: We are opening up our wait list for children aged 12 to 18 years for Psycho-Educational Assessments only. You can schedule a free 15-minute information call by clicking the button below. Note that we do not have services open for treatment, or for custody and access, assessment of post concussive symptoms or autism related diagnostic clarifications.

  • Due to COVID-19, most of our services continue to be provided by teletherapy only (telephone or videoconference). However, we are planning on offering optional in-person services for individual therapy in the fall of 2022. If you are currently receiving services at our clinic and would like to resume services in person, please kindly speak to your service provider.

Click here to see a copy of our consent form regarding teletherapy services and here for information about information security and videoconference. If you are an existing client and have questions please contact your therapist directly.

  • OICBT is located on unceded Algonquin territory. OICBT incorporates holistic care that is client centered, diversity-informed and which integrates biopsychosocial and spiritual determinants of care. At the Intake, Assessment & Treatment level, we inquire from all clients if there are any aspects of their being that are highly important to them that they would like to be integrated into assessment and/or intervention services (including but not limited to identity(ies) related to race, culture, immigration status, gender, sexual orientation, sexual health, age, religion, disability status, employment, relational/family status, spirituality, religion).

Holistic Care includes the expansion of models to account for the fullest totality of a client - a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being that is not simply the absence of illness. Client centered care entails the incorporation of client’s experiences, values, views, and goals in collaborative decision making.

A mental health model of diversity considers how individuals' thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are intertwined with their diverse social environments. This includes the need to adequately address the impact of social determinants of health and experiences of oppression, microaggressions and/or prejudice in the conceptualizations of care for marginalized peoples.

As part of OICBT’s commitment to anti-racism, anti-discrimination, and social justice-based services and recruitment, OICBT actively integrates Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within their practice. This consists of creating services and collective action that are inclusive and committed to the removal of barriers (whether procedural, visible, invisible, intentional, unintentional) that inhibit participation and/or contribution from underrepresented and/or disproportionately disadvantaged groups.
